Internship with Peter Jensen!

I am so so so so very excited about starting a placement with this inventive spark, Peter Jensen on Monday! It took copious amounts of peppermint tea to get me through about 2 weeks of emailing fashion designer upon fashion designer with hope that i would gain some sort of work experience over the summer or alas, be at home in bath for another unproductive summer!

Thankfully after weeks of contact and a few interviews on the way i was successful in gaining 3 internship opportunities with Jasper Garvida, Topshop and Peter Jensen. I decided to go for Peter Jensen because the overall look of his general aesthetic really suits mine.. It's very fun and quirky with lots of references to his childhood and imagination.( plus his brand logo is a chubby little rabbit..if that's not an incentive i don't know what is..?)

This placement also offered a practical element which i could be involved in, from research to pattern cutting to toiling and sewing. My confidence in the general "make" area is lacking so this is what i really needed. My aim at the end of the placement is to leave with bundles of knowledge and confidence to go back to uni and work my little socks off to produce a 6 outfit collection with no worries! haha i can only hope and maybe dream a little....

faded memories.. covered in dust!

I've been looking at old photographs of my family from old shoe boxes covered in dust. I used them alot for my final second year project i did called DIRECTIONS which encouraged us to focus on something personal..

I Love the faded texture of the photograph's and pigment of colours that have lasted through the years. The photo's are of my mum and her sisters in the 1960's..and I just think they are such a treat. From the little naive faces to the peter pan collars placed ontop of "mondrian" inspired dresses and of course little toucan... lovelyness..!

"Make, Do and Mend" was a little project shot by Tim Walker for Vogue UK..Outfits constructed from odd bobs around the house, including toilet roll, marshmellows and tea cloths. The styling is so sweet and although the shoot isnt current the message it tells us that creativity is timeless and it tramples all over money, with economy priced products making the most bizarre and thoughtfully compiled outfits.. I like the promotion of make, do and mend: recycling,re using and above all just the encouragement to create create create..
Je suis Je ne suis pas is the Motto of one of my favourite Designers, Jean Charles De Castelbajac, which means I am and I do not follow..!
